A book reuse/fundraising program can benefit a local social services organization. Coastal Connections in Salisbury, a nonprofit human services agency serving individuals with multiple disabilities, has recently placed a donation container at Tom's Discount to collect books, CDs, DVDs and audio books for fundraising purposes.

Coastal Connections will be paid on an ongoing basis for all items collected in their container. In addition, many of these collected goods will later be donated to schools and libraries, sent overseas to the troops and sold in book sales to benefit local nonprofit groups.

Donations can be made by anyone at any time.

Coming up over the weekend of July 25 and 26 at Salisbury Beach State Reservation is the 2nd annual Merrimack River Maritime Festival that will bring three class A and B tall ships to the area. The festival will feature land-side fun that will include interactive demonstrations and activities for children, and a live concert and fireworks display on Saturday night.

Admission to land side activities is free; there is a small fee for ship tours.

Salisbury is one of only two official ports in the state outside of Boston to be a part of Sail Massachusetts, an annual program of visiting ships from around the globe. Visitors can tour the historic and educational class A and B ships that are part of Sail Boston 2009 and the Tall Ships Atlantic Challenge, an international trans-Atlantic regatta. Ships that will visit Salisbury include the 141-foot Kalmar Nyckel, a replica of one of America's pioneering colonial ships that traveled to the New World from Sweden in 1638; the 150-foot Peacemaker, built in Brazil by an Italian family of boat builders and now a symbol of unity among people; and 55-foot Must Roos, a replica of a pirate ship complete with cannons and the swashbuckling, sword fighting "Pirates of the Dark Rose."

Ship visits and the land-side festival takes place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on both days, with the Bellevue Cadillac performing on Saturday at 7 p.m. for a free concert on the Beach Front Stage. A fireworks show follows.

For a more the complete schedule of the event, visit www.beachfests.org or call the hotline, 978-462-7271.
