Seabrook sobriety check nabs 25

SEABROOK — In a four-hour period this weekend, the New Hampshire State Police arrested 25 people and put three people into protective custody at its sobriety checkpoint at Seabrook Beach, twice as many as at a similar checkpoint last summer.

Funded by the New Hampshire Highway Safety Agency, state troopers were joined for the sobriety check by Seabrook and Hampton police departments, the Rockingham County Sheriff's Department and the New Hampshire Bureau of Liquor Enforcement. The checkpoint was on Route 1A from 10 p.m. on Friday to 2 a.m. on Saturday.

"They set up just south of the (Hampton/Seabrook harbor) bridge on Route 1A by the Yankee Fisherman's Coop," Seabrook police Lt. Michael Gallagher said yesterday. "It's really a good location. It's tough for drivers to turn around and go the other way once they see the checkpoint."

Gallagher said the high number of the arrests this year could be weather-related.

"I think it was because it was the first nice day in a long time," he said. "I think that's one reason why there were so many."

The Bureau of Liquor Enforcement had its DUI Command Post at the sobriety checkpoint, where those arrested were booked immediately.

"The Liquor Enforcement Bureau's Command Post has booking and holding facilities right there in the vehicle at the scene to process the arrests and give breath tests," Gallagher said. "I took a look inside; it's awesome."

All subjects listed below were arrested and released on personal recognizance bail, and are scheduled for arraignments in the Hampton District Court on July 27 or Aug. 21 at 8 a.m.

Yudenny Castillo, 18, of Bennington Street, Lawrence, charged with driving while intoxicated (DWI).

Juan Salazar, 25, of Bennington Street, Lawrence, charged with disorderly conduct, minor possession of alcohol and possession of tobacco product.

Megan Luce, 22, of Moore Avenue, Lowell, charged with possession of controlled drug and possession of a narcotic.

Paula Himmer, 44, of Leavitt Road, Hampton, charged with DWI.

Ewald Curtis, 63, of Forrest Lane, North Grafton, N.H., charged with DWI.

Derrek Degusus of Cicut Avenue, Worcester, charged with minor transporting alcohol.

Joseph Dirusso, 42, of Saratoga Street, Lynn, charged with DWI.

Caceres Guillermo, 26, of East Haverhill St., Lawrence, charged with possession of an open container of alcohol.

Luis Lopez, 29, of Haverhill Street, Lawrence, charged with possession of an open container of alcohol.

Kristen Miller, 17, Radcliff Road, Billerica, charged with minor possession of alcohol.

James Zaroulis, 36, of Longmeadow Road, Tewksbury, charged with DWI.

Shawn Conway, Morriset Street, Dracut, charged with DWI.

James Zahareas, 17, of Dogwood Road, Pelham, N.H., charged with minor possession of alcohol and disorderly conduct.

Casey Webster, 28, of Pentucket Street, Lowell, charged with DWI.

Danielle Derco, 19, of Ottis Avenue, Salem, N.H., charged with minor transportation of alcohol.

Casey King, 19, of Dawn Street, Salem, N.H., charged with disobeying an officer and minor in possession of alcohol.

Marc Harrington, 50, of Main Street, Salisbury, charged with DWI.

Katie O'Connor, 24, of Pond View Way, Hubbardston, charged with possession of controlled drug.

Marcos Benitez, 25, of Mechanic Street, Leominster, charged with transportation of controlled drug.

Alex Motalvo, 20, of Maravista Way, Worcester, charged with minor transportation of alcohol.

Christopher Gaffney, 19, Brooke Road, Boylston, charged with DWI and possession of alcohol.

A juvenile, 16, charged with unlawful possession of alcohol.

Ariel McKenna, 18, Sequoian Road, Billerica, charged with unlawful possession of alcohol.

Jason Kunicki, 32, no address listed, was charged with DWI.

Dennis Eaton, 21, Province Road, Strafford, N.H., charged with DWI.
