NEWBURY — Police are searching for a local man who they believe raped a woman three times early Tuesday morning.
According to police reports, Daniel Noone, 26, formerly of 58 Middle Road, is accused of assaulting a woman at a residence on Low Street about 2 a.m. Tuesday. Noone fled the scene before the woman called 911, Newbury police Chief Michael Reilly said, and Newbury officers, along with officers from Newburyport and Amesbury's K-9 unit, searched the area.
The woman was treated and released from Anna Jaques Hospital, Reilly said.
Noone is familiar to police, who say he has attempted to hide out in the Seacoast area in the past.
"He likes to run," said Reilly. "He's very familiar with the woods and has hidden there in the past."
Reilly said police have been searching the area "intensively" over the last 36 hours, bringing in state police and Essex County sheriff's deputies, but did not want to publicly announce the search for fear of "spooking" Noone. While police are following up on leads, they want more information, Reilly said.
"We want to get this out to the people," he said.
Noone is on parole. In February, he was found guilty of driving while under the influence of drugs and possession of class B and E drugs. At that time, he was listed as having an address on Forest Road, Salisbury.
Noone has hidden in the woods and taken shelter in storage trailers from Ipswich to Hampton Beach, Reilly said. Reilly said he should be considered dangerous, and he asked residents to phone in any information regarding Noone's whereabouts.
"If anyone sees him or has any idea where he is, contact us," Reilly said.
Noone is 5 feet, 10 inches and weighs about 210 pounds, with red hair, brown eyes and a tattoo on his right calf of a shamrock with the word "PRIDE," according to police.
Besides three warrants on rape charges, Noone also has a warrant on a parole violation, and police said they may charge him with other offenses once they conclude their investigation.
