Planning begins for Georgetown Days

GEORGETOWN - Volunteers and sponsors are needed for the upcoming Georgetown Days celebration on Oct. 24 to 26. The event aims to bring old-fashioned fun back to Georgetown at the Peabody Library park.

"We are looking for sponsorships, which can be in the form of overseeing and running a certain small event," said Sandy Gerraughty, one of the event's planners. "For example, we would love to have a pie-baking contest, but need someone to come up with the rules, contestant applications, entrance fees and judging," she said. "Financial support is needed also."

Gerraughty said that any money left over from a group's sponsored event could go to that particular group.

Among activities planned for Georgetown Days are sidewalk sales, a Horribles parade, a pumpkin-carving contest, a craft/vendor fair, a DJ with talent show, a scarecrow decorating contest, and a chili and rib cook-off.

Gerraughty also said that all ideas will be considered by the Georgetown Days planning committee, so everyone should feel free to send along their thoughts.

People interested in sponsoring an event, volunteering to help or donate time, money or items should contact Gerraughty at 978-352-3316 or e-mail georgetowndays@yahoo.com.
