The City Council unanimously agreed last week to allow the Benjamin Choate-William Morss Carriage House to be moved from its current location on Merrimac Street to Cashman Park.

The carriage house will be rehabbed and fitted with restrooms, storage space and a meeting room. The recreation barn will be used by the city's Parks Commission, sports organizations and Youth Services. The classroom will be available for rent by community groups.

The facility will have different hours of operation during the different seasons.

The Coastal Trails Coalition will hold a large yard sale at Cushing Park on Saturday, Sept. 20. The sale will raise funds for the Clipper City Rail Trail Enhancement Project. Construction on the project is set to begin shortly.

The sale will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. with a rain date of Sept. 21. Volunteers will also be selling beverages and snacks.

The City Council gave its approval to the Alzheimer's Association of Mass. and N.H. to hold a "toll booth collection" on Saturday, Aug. 30, at State and High streets to raise money to benefit the organization.

C. Bruce Brown, the former city councilor and one-time owner of the Sabino, said a birthday celebration for the steamboat drew an "enormous crowd" to Mystic, Conn., last week.

During the early 1970s, the Sabino would take hundreds of passengers on a cruise each day. It was also the scene of parties, weddings and birthday celebrations.

Brown and his business partner, Joe Pulvino, arranged for the Sabino to go to the Mystic Seaport Museum. The museum threw a 100th birthday celebration for the Sabino on Aug. 9 and 10.

Brown and Pulvino attended and spoke about their time owning the boat and what it meant to Newburyport, and joined a cruise aboard the Sabino.

"We had a very busy day," Brown said.

The Chamber of Commerce announced last week that Michelle Landers, the manager of Marketing and Events, will be leaving the organization after nine years.

Landers has accepted a position at The Urban Land Institute in Boston. Her last day in Newburyport is Thursday.

"We wish her well in her future endeavors," Chamber President Ann Ormond wrote in an e-mail.
