City lines up hybrid Civic

By Katie Farrell
Staff writer

The city's first hybrid for its vehicle fleet will be arriving shortly.

Earlier this month, the City Council and mayor agreed to replace the parking enforcement officer's aging car with a hybrid. The council authorized spending up to $24,500.

City Clerk Richard Jones, who also acts as the parking clerk, said the city is getting a four-door Honda Civic from Commonwealth Motors in Lawrence. It is a 2008.

Honda says its Hybrid Civic gets up to 45 miles to the gallon on the highway. Its suggested starting price is $23,550.

The parking officer's car travels throughout the city and is used as a messenger car for the city during elections and other such events.
