SEABROOK — Susan Petrikas is Seabrook Public Library's new young-adult librarian, and the Rye resident said she's planning to have more activities for kids ages 12 through 18 soon, and she's also hoping they'll help direct them as well.
Petrikas arrived to assume her position in August, after being a librarian for McIntosh College and Marshwood Middle School in South Berwick Maine for 9 years.
One of the first things Petrikas wants to do is create a Teen Advisory Board to help develop ways to support young adults and their needs at the library, she said.
"This is an opportunity for them to have a say about what the library can do for them," Petrikas said.
The new board can help Petrikas decide on the books, magazines, videos, games and other materials the library acquires, she said, as well as the activities it can pursue.
Petrikas has already made contact with the librarians at Seabrook Middle School and Winnacunnet High School, she said, to ensure she can coordinate the local library's programs with those that students need to succeed in their school work.
According to Library Director Ann Robinson, Petrikas has her master's degree in library science, and her experience working with youth speaks well for her ability to help Seabrook youth succeed.
