NEWBURYPORT — Olyce Moore recently won the Clipper City Toastmasters Club Humorous Speech Contest. Moore, a resident of Amesbury, gave a speech titled "The Cat Owner's Manual."
She will represent the club at the Area Speech Contest to be held today at the Topsfield Fair. The Clipper City Club is one of more than 10,500 Toastmasters clubs around the world. Each fall members compete in club-level speech contests. Through competition in the Area, Division and District, contestants will vie for the title of "District 31 Champion of Humorous Public Speaking."
The Clipper City Toastmasters Club meets the first and third Tuesday night of each month 7 p.m. at the Salvation Army on Water Street. Toastmasters Clubs help people learn the arts of speaking, listening, thinking and enhancing leadership potential. The Clipper City Club provides a supportive and positive learning environment where members have the opportunity to develop communication and leadership skills, which in turn foster self-confidence and personal growth.
