Hampton Falls men indicted on multiple rape charges

BRENTWOOD, N.H. — A grand jury has indicted two Hampton Falls men on multiple felony charges that they raped women after meeting them on the Internet and drugging them at their Hampton Falls home.

And police say more charges may be forthcoming.

Facing three counts of aggravated felonious sexual assault is Thomas Currier, 35, of 6 Marsh Lane, Hampton Falls, in the rapes of two different women, one on Aug. 3 and one on Aug. 4 or 5.

Currier is charged with raping and performing another sexual act on Aug. 3 on a 34-year-old woman after police say he met her through the Internet sites of Match.com and Plentyoffish.com, lured her to his home for dinner, then raped her after giving her the drink laced with a mind-altering drug.

The grand jury also indicted Currier on one count of aggravated felonious sexual assault on a 38-year-old woman at his home in Hampton Falls, while Shawn Hutchins, 32, also of 6 Marsh Lane, Hampton Falls is charged with holding her down. The assault took place from Aug. 4 to 5, according to police.

Hutchins was indicted on two counts of aggravated felonious sexual assault in performing a sex act upon the 38-year-old woman, and one count on assisting Currier in raping the woman from Aug 4. to 5 by holding her down.

Yesterday, Hampton Falls police Chief Robbie Dirsa was pleased to hear of the grand jury's actions. He said the investigations against Currier and Hutchins are still ongoing in both his department and that of the New Hampshire State Police. More women have come forward after charges against both men appeared in the news, he said.

"We are continuing to investigate other allegations by other people," Dirsa said yesterday. "I think there could have been one incident in Seabrook. I spoke to Seabrook police Chief Patrick Manthorn about it just last week."

Currier was originally arraigned at Hampton District Court on Aug. 14 with Hutchins' arraignment following on Sept. 2.

Charges against the men were upgraded to aggravated status because of the claim they rendered their victims helpless either through giving them a drug or holding them down. If convicted, the men face a maximum of 20 years' imprisonment for each count.

Dirsa said both men are still being held at Rockingham County House of Correction in Brentwood and are not able to make the hundreds of thousands in bail the court imposed upon each.

Dirsa said Currier worked in North Andover at an automotive and diagnostic company.

Currier also faces misdemeanor charges pending at Hampton District Court, where he stands accused of criminally threatening and stealing $165 from a woman at his Marsh Lane home on Aug. 7. Dirsa said Currier threatened the woman when she refused to drink the beverage he offered.

"He told her if she didn't drink it, he'd shoot her with a gun," Dirsa said.

In Hampton Falls, Lt. Thomas Boynton is heading up the investigations, and Detective Richard Kelly of Troop A is doing the same for the New Hampshire State Police. Dirsa urges anyone who has had contact or who has concerns about Currier or Hutchins to contact Hampton Falls police at 603-926-4619 or New Hampshire State Police Troop A at 603-679-3333.

Deputy District Attorney Thomas Reid was contacted about these cases but did not return the call.
