ROWLEY — Spanning a range of ingredients from venison to vegetables and beef brisket to beer, the 7th annual "Some Like it HOT!" chili cook-off attracted 16 contestants who vied for the votes of five celebrity judges and the affections of a crowd of serious chili lovers.

The winners included:

Red Chili: Chefs of the Old World Catering (Bob and Jane Abesamra), and Pat and Doug Watson (tie for first); Alimento Catering (John Coyle), second; John Peabody, third.

Green Chili: Willow Dale Farm Catering (Mitch Hardy), first; Andrew Cody, second; Institution for Savings/Rowley (Joshua Tuff), third.

Meatless Chili: Marc Maravalli, first; Robin Clemence, second; Brenda Taylor, third.

People's Choice: Willow Dale Farm Catering (Mitch Hardy), first.

Co-hosted by the Friends of the Rowley Public Library and Mercury Brewing Co., the event grossed over $3,600 to benefit library programs, according to Tim Young, Friends president and event chairman. "More than 60 volunteers contributed something to the cook-off — whether it was cooking world-class chili, serving as a judge, playing live music or working tirelessly to make this year's event a success," Young said.

"We are so grateful for the community's support. We especially want to thank our honorary co-chairs and judges, state Rep. Harriett Stanley and state Sen. Bruce Tarr, as well as our sponsors: The American BBQ, Back Nine Tavern, Scott Bernier, Excel Gym, Kayem's Hot Dogs, Marco Polo Restaurant, Old Town Bread, St. Mary's Parish Georgetown-Rowley, Northshore 104.9 FM, Sidney & Hampton Restaurant, The Three Amigos Trio and The Town Common Newspaper," he said.
