November 10, 2008 03:54 am Amesbury's annual Veterans Day Parade will take place tomorrow at 10 a.m. The parade route begins at the Amesbury Fire Station, will proceed to Huntington Square, down Main Street and concludes at the Dough Boy statue on the grounds of Amesbury's Middle School. The Invocation will be provided by the Rev. Robert F. McGlew, and musical selections will be performed by the Amesbury High School Marching Band. Ceremony speakers include Mayor Thatcher Kezer, American Legion Commander Bob Millette and Amesbury Veterans' Service Officer Kristen LaRue. Tributes to deceased veterans will be paid throughout the ceremony, and a gun salute will be performed by the members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2016. In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony will be held at Amesbury's Town Hall Auditorium. For additional information, contact LaRue at 978-388-8136. ¬¢¬¢¬¢ The Amesbury Public School Department will hold two parent/community forums as part of the Cashman Elementary principal search forum. The first will be held Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at the Cashman Elementary School library. The second will be held Tuesday, Nov. 18 at 9:30 a.m. at the Amesbury High School library conference room. ¬¢¬¢¬¢ Amesbury Boy Scouts are supporting their local community by collecting food for local food pantries. The packs have filled two trucks each of the last three years, and their goal this year is to fill three trucks. This year the Scouts from Packs 4 and 7 and Troops 4 and 7 will be scouting for food Wednesday. The Scouts distributes bags to homes in Amesbury Saturday morning. Residents are asked to fill the bag with non-perishable items and leave them outside their doors Saturday, Nov. 15 by 9:30 a.m. The Scouts will collect the bags by 1 p.m. and deliver the food to Our Neighbors' Table. Our Neighbors' Table requests the following most needed items: canned beef stew, canned soup (especially chunky soups, chicken noodle and tomato), pasta (spaghetti, macaroni, penne, etc.), canned ravioli, baked beans, cereal, oatmeal (regular and instant), personal care items (bar soap, shampoo, deodorant, toothpaste), toilet paper, juice (large cans, plastic bottles or juice boxes — no glass), canned pasta sauce and canned fruit. For more information about Scouting or questions, contact Anders Lund at 978-388-6294. ¬¢¬¢¬¢ On Wednesday at 5 p.m. the Amesbury Rotary Club will be dedicating the fountain in front of the library in Marc Lankin's memory. Marc was a former Rotarian who passed away from cancer in July 2007, and was a very active member of other groups in town including the Chamber of Commerce. The fountain was donated to the town by the Amesbury Rotary. Those attending should park in one of the municipal lots or walk if possible, since the Our Neighbors' Table traffic/parking is heavy on Wednesday afternoons. ¬¢¬¢¬¢ There will be a heating assistance presentation on Friday at 8:30 a.m. at the Senior Center. Join the center for a free breakfast and guest speaker Bill Cutler, nutrition director for the Merrimack Valley Nutrition Program. Call 978-388-8138 to register by Wednesday. ¬¢¬¢¬¢ The Cultural Council will sponsor the Open Studio Tour on Saturday and Sunday. The tour begins at the Cultural Center in the Upper Millyard. Maps will be handed out with the locations of artists and their studios. The tour goes from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday. ¬¢¬¢¬¢ State Sen. Steven Baddour and state Rep. Mike Costello invite Amesbury seniors to a fall feast on Thursday, Nov. 20, at 4 p.m. at the Senior Center. Join them for an Italian dinner and entertainment by Sebastian on accordion and paisani. There will be two seatings for dinner, 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. Call 978-388-8138 to register by Monday, Nov. 17. ¬¢¬¢¬¢ Amesbury High School class of 1989 has set up a Facebook profile and e-mail address to help gather contact information for upcoming reunions. The e-mail address is ahsclassof89@gmail.com, and the Web page is www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=37842002066. ¬¢¬¢¬¢ Time is running out for the Our Neighbors' Table Food and Fund Drive. And now, an extra free raffle ticket will be given when five tickets are purchased. The Amesbury Downtown Business Association will donate a basket at the end of the monthlong raffle. In addition they will continue to collect food products until tomorrow. The following businesses are participating: Amesbury Center for Healing (raffle only), Boston Hair Design (raffle only), Chamber of Commerce (food drop-off only), Charlotte's, Country Meadows, Edward Jones (raffle only), Envelop the Moment, Greenery Designs (raffle only), Met Life Home Loans, Ovedia Artisan Chocolates, Parke Place, Paws Pet Boutique, Riverwalk Bead Shop & Gallery. ¬¢¬¢¬¢ The Amesbury Police Department will hold their "Fill a Cruiser With Food" drive on Saturday, Nov. 22 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Super Stop and Shop on Macy Street. Donations of packaged food will be accepted at the event to stock the shelves of Our Neighbors' Table food pantry. The pantry is in need of the following: cereal, pasta, fruit juice, kids' snacks, soup and beef stew, baby food, canned fruits and vegetables, canned foods. Cash donations are also accepted. Volunteers will be at Stop and Shop on Nov. 22. In addition, donations can be dropped off any time at the Amesbury Police station. ¬¢¬¢¬¢ The annual winter parking ban begins Monday, Dec. 1. All vehicles must be parked off the street between 1 a.m. and 5 a.m. regardless of weather conditions. Any vehicle left unattended on the street will be subject to a parking violation and or towing at the owner's expense. The winter ban violation fine is $50. Overnight parking is also prohibited in public school and municipal lots including Fried Street, Main Street, Water Street, the Public Library and School Street lots. Residents living within the central business district may obtain a permit at the town clerk's office at Town Hall. During a snow emergency, public service announcements will be broadcast over local radio and television stations including WNBP 1450 AM to provide information. When a snow emergency is declared all vehicles must be off the streets regardless of time of day.
