Second-graders are learning how to choose books appropriate for leisure reading. Students have been taught that just decoding the words is not enough; it's also very important to understand and think about what is being read. During Readers' Workshop time, these skills are being reinforced.

As part of an interdisciplinary study, fourth-graders will do a Haunted Gingerbread House project. Money, geometry and creative writing will be incorporated into the project.

Fifth-grade students are busy with an author study. They are responsible for working with a group to become an expert on the author of choice. The first annual Author's Celebration is scheduled for Nov. 25, when students will present what they have learned.

A fall family dance will take place Friday in the Penn Brook School gym at 6:30 p.m.
