To the editor:
Newburyport's history of youth sports programs is rich indeed and on May 10, the Newburyport Pioneer Baseball and Softball League, Inc will be hosting a 50th season celebration with a dinner banquet and reunion of league alumni and current members at the Elks Club on Low Street in Newburyport beginning at 6 p.m. and continuing until 11 p.m. Entertainment will also be provided.
I humbly extend an invitation for previous league members to join us as we current members salute and hopefully meet our league alumni (surviving founders and early team managers, coaches, players, parents and other interested persons). This event will be an evening that will not be forgotten as we remember the good old days and relive times from the past as we exchange stories, memories, and tall tales from the years past as we all get a chance to be a kid again ... grin. I am sure there will be a few surprises during the night also.
Alumni will get a chance to hear of our plans for the future as we provide the occasion for a safe, fun, healthful and meaningful training activity under good adult leadership in an atmosphere of community participation. Our league's objective is to provide ball-playing youngsters with an exposure to goal setting and an experience of teamwork, sportsmanship, self-discipline, personal skill development and fair play in an environment of social interaction.
The event planners have promised to limit my time at the microphone ... grin.
I respectfully hope you all will attend so that we may fill the Elks Club. This event is for adults only and ticket prices are $30 each or $50 per couple. We will need a head count for the caterers, so for additional details and to purchase tickets, please contact event planners Cathy Lawler (cathlawler@aol.com) or Tom Siemasko (thesiemaskos@comcast.net). A secondary contact is Chris Wile (978 465-4171). Our Web site is: www.thenewburyportpioneerleague.com.
Thank you and I hope to see you all at this great event.
