Letter: Joe Story deserves another term

Fri, May 16 2008

To the editor:

My husband and I have known Joe Story for over 30 years. When we discovered that Joe was interested in serving the town of Newbury as selectman, we were thrilled and behind him one hundred percent.

Joe was raised in Newbury and his choice to live in town for most if not all of his life speaks volumes about his love for the town. His decision to run for selectman showed his commitment to the town and to the people who live in Newbury.

During his first term as selectman, he has proved through his hard work and his attentiveness to the various issues, that he is committed to keep Newbury's unique character in tact as the town struggles with important issues such as development, education, and public safety.

Joe has developed a wonderful working relationship with our legislators and has stood with them to expedite the Parker River Bridge issue, and address the current issues facing Plum Island.

In a time when our precious open space and farmland is being grabbed up by developers, the Story family has kept many acres of land undeveloped and open for residents and wildlife to enjoy.

For the many years we have known Joe Story, he has shown us to be hardworking, conscientious and dependable. We feel, because of his love and dedication to this area, he will always keep the town of Newbury as a top priority and have complete confidence that his decisions will help move the town forward, while preserving the things that have made all of us fall in love with Newbury.

Both of us would like to personally thank Joe for everything he helped accomplish in his past term as selectman. We are proud to have Joe as a friend, and our selectman and have complete confidence in him to do what is best for Newbury and its residents.
