To the editor:
I read with interest a recent letter endorsing Joe Story for selectman in Newbury.
The author cited the need for stability in leadership during the difficult times Newbury faces. Essentially, this was a "don't change horses in midstream" argument. Perhaps it would have been better for the author to ask who rode the horse into the middle of the stream in the first place? And do we really want to keep going that way?
A vote for Steve St. Arnault on May 13 offers Newbury residents a chance to change the town's direction for the better. Steve will provide open and accessible government to all residents. The rights of natives and newcomers alike will be respected. Steve will advocate for a five person board of selectmen to diminish block-voting and provide more diverse representation to all citizens.
Steve will fight for a town manager/administrator form of government to better manage town resources and finances. Steve will promote fiscally sound policies and will balance the positive aspects of economic growth against the impact it has on town services and on the fabric of the community. It's time for a change. It's time to vote for Steve St. Arnault for selectman.
