To the Editor:
As the April rains give way to May sunshine, we are anticipating one of our favorite rites of spring, Newbury Town Library's very own Mrs. Collins' annual singing of the "Garden Song."
After reading great stories of gardening, she patiently leads the participants of story hour in the fun and messy project of planting a Kentucky wonder bean. Ever since our first son was 2, (he is now 7), our window sills have had plastic cups with fast-growing wonder beans each May, awaiting their garden home.
Some years the plants haven't made it, others we've actually eaten wonder beans, but every year, the kids love to watch the seedling grow. When he was little he was disappointed that I couldn't sing the Garden Song as sweetly as Mrs. Collins, but we learned the words and sing it just the same.
We look forward to our daughter joining her brothers in this annual event. We are so fortunate to have a town library with such caring, gifted, committed and talented librarians! The women who work in the library are true heroes of our children and they have added so much to our lives as a family.
