To the Editor:
My husband and I are residents of Newbury and lovers of Tendercrop Farm's local produce, meat, poultry and other products. The farm stand is located approximately a half a mile from our home, so we often bike or walk there, saving gas at the same time as getting some exercise.
So, now I am in a quandary. Do I continue to support this farm despite the fact that I strongly believe that its owner, Matt Kozazcki, was very wrong in his opposition to the Village at Little River project? Do I support him despite the fact that I believe he is interested in only his own welfare, not the general financial welfare of the entire Town of Newbury, as he so often claims to be?
I have been mulling this issue over for several weeks now and have come to the conclusion that I would be hurting myself much more than I would Matt Kozazcki's bottom line by not going to Tendercrop. So, I will continue to buy my local products from him with the fervent hope that in the future he and others who voted against this project will start to look at the big picture, that they will realize change is inevitable and that it's much better to have "smart growth" than haphazard growth; that it is not a "knee-jerk" reaction (as he stated in the Boston Globe) when every committee in town approves a project after months and months of in-depth analysis.
Finally, I hope that he is the first to support a Proposition 21/2 override when it's proposed, because that's what it's going to take to provide all the services we expect as residents of this beautiful town.
