Running

The YWCA Greater Newburyport is seeking nominations for the annual Pat Polletta Memorial Trophy. The YWCA established the award in late 2005, following the death of long-time YWCA volunteer and supporter, Pasquale "Pat" Polletta, to recognize at least one young woman who is currently a high school junior in the greater Newburyport area. The recipient should consistently attain athletic achievement in cross country or track and field, demonstrate team leadership, exhibit leadership qualities serving as a mentor and role model to her teammates, and through word and action, demonstrate a commitment to community service. Umpires

The Newburyport Umpire's Association is asking all interested returning and new umpires to attend an initial meeting either March 15 or 16 (9 a.m.) at the Merrimack Street Clubhouse. First-year umpires must be at least 14-years-old as of April 30, 2008. The 2008 commitment will included the 12-week season including playoffs as well as summer baseball ending in mid-August. Special needs

Registration is open for the spring season of Eagles Topsoccer, a soccer program for children ages 4 to 12 who have intellectual disabilities such as down syndrome and autism, and children with cerebral palsy. The program runs from April 26 to June 21 from 3:30 to 5 p.m. in Hamilton. The annual soccer festival will follow on June 28. Youth soccer

Youth hockey

The Amesbury Youth Hockey League will host a Dream Dinners fundraiser until March 15 in North Hampton, N.H. Dream Dinners will offer the AYHL eight percent of the total cost of every 6- to 12-person dinner. To book a session, call 603-922-7536.

Figure skating

The Graf Rink will be hosting its annual spring figure skating show April 6 at 4 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for children under 12 and senior citizens over 65. Youth football

Triton Pop Warner Football and Cheerleading will be holding registration and information nights for players and cheerleaders ages 7-15 on March 19 (6 to 8 p.m.) at Triton High.

The Newburyport Youth Football and Cheerleading League will be holding registration for the fall season for students in grades 5 through 8 on April 7 and 8 (6 p.m. to 8 p.m.) at the Nock Middle School cafeteria. All new players are asked to bring a copy of his/her birth certificate and a non-refundable registration fee ($200 for football, $150 for cheerleading). Registration and workouts for Post 150 Nor'Easters American Legion Baseball team will be April 13, 20 and 27 at 5:30 p.m. at Newbuyport's Lower Field. Coaching vacancy

Triton Regional High is opening the following coaching positions for the fall sports season: varsity, JV and freshman football; varsity and JV boys and girls soccer; varsity and JV field hockey; head and assistant boys and girls cross country; golf; and cheerleading. Please submit an application letter, resume and three letters of recommendation to athletic director Dave Dempsey by March 26. Salaries are in accordance with the Triton Teachers' Association contract.
