Pair of Sarahs spark Triton

Girls Lacrosse

Triton 13, Danvers 6

It was the Sarah Show at Triton (10-4) as Sarah Nardone (5 goals) and Sarah Peterson (5 goals, 1 assist) combined for 10 goals, setting up a huge match with Georgetown today for the lead in Division II of the CAL.

Colleen Gargan, Erin Curley, and Michelle Godfrey each had one goal. Erin Loughlin added an assist. Kristi Davis had 11 saves. Coach Stacey Beaulieu said the key to the game was playing great open-field defense.

Boys Lacrosse

Georgetown 10, Lynnfield 4

James McGillicuddy scored three goals for Georgetown (6-8). Brandon Wade and Nick Sheffield added two goals each. Dave LaFlamme tallied a goal and three assists. Billy Smith and Mike Smith scored one goal each. Jon Bornodoro and Robbie Gibb had assists. Joe Butera made 12 saves.

Baseball

North Andover 16, Amesbury 3

The Cape Ann League-leading North Andover squad took advantage of some costly Indian errors. Steve Serwon (2 for 3, 1 RBI) and J.C. Collette (2 for 2, double, run scored) had multiple hits for the Indians (4-10), who have won four of their last nine.

Hamilton-Wenham 9, Triton 5

Triton coach Steve Padovani said his Vikings (5-8) reached the low point, losing to Hamilton-Wenham (2-10).

"We seem to be playing terrible baseball, struggling in every aspect of the game," Padovani said. "We've got to regroup and win our next five straight because our last two games are against Oliver Ames — one of the top five programs in the state."

Softball

Triton 10, Manchester Essex 6

Gail Lebrun was 1 for 1 with a two-run single for Triton (8-8). Marissa Strange was 2 for 4 with a two-run single. Marian Dullea threw a complete-game five-hitter. She struck out seven batters and walked two.

Boys Track and Field

Newburyport 91, Amesbury 54

Richie Pace (shot put, 51-7; discus, 133-10), Richie Roy (high hurdles, 16.6; 300, 42.7) and Greg Englehart (2-mile, 11:07; mile, 5:08) won two events each for Newburyport (5-5). Tom Svirsky (triple jump, 36-11), Thayer Adsit (800, 2:15), Tom Dwyer (200, 24.0) and Sam Bensley (javelin, 157-7) also placed first.

"The boys were able to finish off their season well," Newburyport coach Tim Foley said. "Amesbury had some injuries that assisted us."

Girls Track and Field

Newburyport 92, Amesbury 53

Varoline Barnaby (long jump, 14-5; high jump, 4-10; 300, 49.8) won three individual events for Newburyport (5-5). Hannah McCormick (triple jump, 30-6 1/2; 800, 2:38.4) won two. Melissa Derrico (discus, 92-0), Kaitlyn Wallace (shot put, 37-0 1/2), Meghann Ronan (pole vault, 9-0), Maura Welch (2-mile, 12:46), Alli Hill-Wilton (high hurdles, 17.8; ) and Taylor Burl (100, 13.23) also placed first.

Boys Tennis

Hamilton-Wenham 4, Newburyport 1

Nick Filipancic (7-5, 6-3) had the only Newburyport win. The Clippers (7-5) have already clinched a tournament berth.

"We want to finish strong and end the season 9-5," Newburyport coach Neil Reardon said.

North Andover 3, Pentucket 2

Jeff Boyd (6-0, 6-1) and Ryan Swanson (6-4, 6-3) won their singles matches for the Sachems (4-5).

"We need to win three out of our next four to qualify for the tourney," said Pentucket coach Christian Langlois.

Girls Tennis

Pentucket 3, North Andover 2

Liza Pope (6-1, 6-1), Karena Webber (6-3, 6-4), and Cara Freitas (6-3, 7-6) won for Pentucket (5-6).

"We need two more wins to make the tourney," said Pentucket coach Laurie Dunnet. "We're playing well. The girls haven't stopped improving."

Hamilton-Wenham 5, Newburyport 0

The Clippers (4-9) fell out of contention for the state tournament.

"It was just a tough match for us," said Alyson Lindquist. "We have two more potential wins on our schedule, and we're looking to end the season on a good note."
