Newburyport 2, Masconomet Regional 0
Newburyport (12-2-3) beat the home-advantaged Chieftains (12-3-3) yesterday, 2-0, moving into second place in the Cape Ann League Large standings. The Clippers, the hottest team in the CAL, have won nine out of 10 games (the exception being a tie) and are currently rolling on an eight-game winning streak. Ashley Karelis scored a goal and dished out an assist, Rachel Notargiacomo had a second half goal, and Callie Hefferan found Karelis in the first half. Haley Morris had 11 saves in the win. Newburyport had the upper hand in shots on goal (17-16) and offensive corners (8-5).
"Everyone just played so well," said Clipper coach Lauren Hefferan. "Cassandra Davis, Callie Hefferan, and Ashley Karelis are really feeding off of each other right now. Haley Johnson and Taylor Damon played great on defense, and Haley Morris had her best effort of the season. The defense really pulled it together."
North Andover 5, Pentucket Regional 1
Courtney Lynch bridged the North Andover offensive and defensive lines effectively, helping the Scarlet Knights dispatch of Pentucket, 5-1. Lynch had three assists and played stellar defense for North Andover (14-1-2, first place in CAL Large).
Mallory Tine had the lone goal for the Sachems (3-10-3).
Amesbury 1, Wilmington 1
Amesbury's Gabby Magnifico scored the game's first goal with 13 minutes remaining in the second half. Wilmington (2-13-3) answered three minutes later. Wilmington held the slight advantage in shots (15-14) and corners (7-6). Kaitlyn Goodwin made 12 saves for Amesbury (4-9-4).

Hamilton-Wenham 0, Newburyport 0
Thayer Adsit helped the Clippers (6-5-3) control possession in their offensive end for the majority of the second half. Ethan Machurat had the shutout in goal for Newburyport.
Triton Regional 4, Manchester Essex 3
Eddie Hargreaves had two goals for Triton (5-3-7). Matt McWeeney had the game-winner. Justin Paquette added a goal and an assist. Evan Schwarz had three assists. Colin Smith added one.
Pentucket Regional 2, Rockport 1
Pentucket (7-5-2) took a 1-0 lead into the half before Rockport (3-7-5) junior tri-captain and forward Michael Emerson received a nice through ball from freshman center back A.J. Burnham and tied it up. The Sachems got the game-winner with 11 minutes left and the Vikings had chances but couldn't convert.
Freshman midfielder C.J. Burnham, sophomore midfielder Sam Scatterday and sophomore striker Cam Tibert were standouts while sophomore fullbacks Andrew Visnick and Alex Hauck also played well for Rockport.
Girls Soccer
Amesbury 2, Ipswich 1
Alianna Ortu had a brilliant game scoring both goals for the Indians, who hung on to beat Ipswich, 2-1, after allowing a goal with six minutes to go in the game. The win ended a short three-game slide.
Nicole Richardson had an assist, and Jessica Marx came up big in goal for the Indians.
Newburyport 5, Hamilton-Wenham 1
At the 19:58 mark in the game, Newburyport hit the post against its Hamilton-Wenham opponents, and over the next three minutes the Clippers came to life, scoring three times.
Jillian Kinter scored a hat trick, including a rocket of a goal that coach Robb Gonnam said was one of the hardest shots he has ever seen. Taylor Bresnahan scored twice, including one in which she beat four defenders on a 40-yard run, and had an assist. Veronica Poirier had two assists, and Avery Cullinan and Hannah Martin each had an assist.
Pentucket Regional 5, Rockport 0
Pentucket's Sarah Selig netted two goals and two assists. Meghan Dillon added two goals for the Sachems (4-8-1). Breanna Yocum also netted a goal. Katherine Torrisi and K.C. Jones had assists.
Manchester Essex 0, Triton Regional 5
Rachelle Bourque scored two goals for Triton (4-10-1). Alissa Sullivan added a goal for the Vikings. Brittany Caprio had two assists. Jen Rock also added an assist.
"We dominated from start to finish," Triton coach Dan Boyle said. "We should've scored a few more goals, but we'll take the wins where we can get them. It's something to build on."
