Pentucket Youth Basketball will hold tryouts for girls travel basketball teams Oct. 14 at Pentucket Regional High. Fifth-grade tryouts will be 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.; sixth-grade tryouts will be 1 to 2:15 p.m.; sixth-grade tryouts will be 1 to 2:15 p.m.; seventh- and eighth-grade tryouts will be 2:30 to 3:45 p.m.
The Newburyport Girls Basketball Association is accepting registrations for the for the 2012-2013 basketball season for all girls in grades 5, 6, 7, and 8. The NGBA is a non-profit organization that allows all girls the opportunity to play and learn the game of basketball. Registrations postmarked after Oct. 11 may be placed on a waiting list. Amesbury Youth Rotary Basketball League for boys and girls in grades 2 through 8 in the Amesbury or South Hampton NH school districts has opened registration. Intown division games will be played on Saturdays from December through February with one practice during the week. Travel games will be played either Saturday or Sunday with two practices per week. The Newburyport Basketball Academy will be running two separate basketball clinics this season for boys in first- to eighth grade. The second clinic will run on Sundays starting Nov. 11 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Newburyport High for boys in first- to eighth-grade. The Howling Mile dog race will take place Oct. 27 at 10 a.m. at Newburyport’s Cashman Park. The dog will have the timing chip, and the dog owner will be running with the dog.
