Playing in front of a jam-packed gym last Saturday in the Seabrook Recreation Department basketball championship, the Seabrook Nets upset the No. 1 seeded Seabrook Warriors 45-35 to capture the title in the sixth- through eighth-grade division.

Seeded No. 3 after posting a 5-5 record in the regular season, the Nets peaked at the right time, knocking off both the No. 2 seeded Celtics (8-2) in the opening round before topping the 9-1 Warriors in the final.

Down by six at the half (19-13) in the title tilt, the Nets rode the hot hand of eighth-grader Wes Falzarano (8 rebounds), who scored 13 of his game-high 18 points in the final stanza. Fellow eighth-grader Michael Stocker (11 points, 5 assists) ran the show to perfection at the point, while shooting guard Savanah Sigman (9 points), a seventh-grader, drained two huge three-pointers in the final half as the Nets outscored the Warriors 32-16 in the final 16 minutes.

Seventh-grader Chad Reardon (5 points, 7 rebounds, 3 blocks) triggered a stifling Nets’ defense that frustrated the top offensive team in the league. Also playing well in the championship for the Nets were Kaylib Tilley, Jamison Weeks (3 rebounds), Emily Albright, Brandon Todd and Devlin Signara.

The Nets were coached by Bob Albright and Justin Braley.

Connor Allen had a strong game for the Warriors with team-high 17 points.
