Govs beat Middlesex in opener

Girls Basketball

Governor’s Academy 48, Middlesex 23

The Govs raced out to a 12-1 lead behind the defense of senior captains Kendall Ham and Jackie Ham and the timely shooting of Randle Ervwin. However, the Govs lost focus midway through the first half and allowed Middlesex to cut the score to 21-14 at the half. The Ham sisters cranked up the defense to begin the second half and led the team on a decisive run. Carli Citrano and Courtney Cashman led the team on the glass while Isa Berzanski came off the bench to provide physical defense and some efficient passing.
