Three Triton wrestlers place in Lowell tourney

Triton High School made history as three of its wrestlers placed 5th in the 74-team Lowell Holiday Tournament — the most teams in tournament history. It is the first time since 1990 that three Vikings placed in this tournament.

Jake Durkin wrestled in the 132-pound weight class against 55 other competitors and finished 5th overall. Durkin would go 4-2 in the two-day tournament.

Luke Boyle finished the two-day tournament with a 6-2 record, finishing 5th also in the 145-pound weight class. His class was made up of 63 other wrestlers, 57 of whom he finished ahead.

Mark Boyle wrestled in the 185-pound weight class against 54 others. He also finished 5th, going 4-2 in the two-day tournament.

Triton head coach Shawn McElligott couldn’t be happier with the performance, the best in the past 24 years.

“They’ve had a great weekend,” he said. “All three of them. It’s a big deal considering it’s a 74-team tournament, so they’ve had a long weekend and it’s been pretty good.”
