Let the madness begin

It’s a well-established fact that the first two days of the NCAA basketball tournament are the two most fun days of the sports year. Sixteen games being played from noon until midnight with at least two or three to choose from at any given time? It doesn’t get any better than that.

By now I’m sure most of you have already made all your picks, but for those procrastinators out there who have waited until this morning to fill out their brackets, here are a few, quick, last-minute tips.

Safest Pick: Arizona

For all the hype I’ve given Louisville this past week, they still have a tough road to get to the Final Four. Wichita State is a really good team, and if they were in any other region I would’ve picked them to reach the Final Four without any second thoughts, so that won’t be a cakewalk for the Cardinals.

Same goes for Michigan State in the East. Virginia may be a little overrated as a one-seed but they’re still a great team and winning the ACC is no small feat. And while Florida is definitely the consensus No. 1 team, Kansas and Syracuse can’t be ignored as legitimate contenders too.

Arizona, on the other hand, is easily one of the best teams in the country and doesn’t appear to have any real pitfalls waiting for them in their region. Who is going to beat them? Creighton is a one-man show that relies too much on three-point shooting, and when has Wisconsin ever done anything in the tournament?

Obviously, it’s March Madness and anything can happen, but if there’s any one-seed you can feel good about picking to the Final Four, Arizona is probably your safest bet.
