Newburyport boys outdoor track team loses to North Reading

Boys Track

North Reading 73, Newburyport 72

Steve Preston won the discus (145-0) and shot put (51-2) for Newburyport in the season-opener. Tom Graham won the 100 (11.8) and 200 (23.7). Chris Orlando (2-mile, 10:31), Joe Santo (mile, 4:47), Sawyer Updike (800, 2:05) and the 4x100 relay team of Josh Darcy, Brendan Byron, Jake Fisher and Justin Cole placed first for the Clippers.

Masconomet 97, Amesbury 48

Curran O’Connor (discus, 149-9), Perry Mroz (shot put, 52-5 1/2), Evan King (javelin, 155-7), Adam Elfiki (triple jump, 38-2 1/5) and Nick Fiorella (pole vault, 10-0) placed first for Amesbury (1-0).

Girls Track

North Reading 82, Newburyport 58

Liza Twomey won two events for Newburyport -- the 100 (13.5) and 200 (28.9). Lily Eagan (400 hurdles, 1:11.3), Alex Muise (javelin, 85-0) and Kristen Mackie (mile, 6:08) also placed first.

Masconomet 87 1/2, Amesbury 57 1/2

Marissa Randall (shot put, 32-1 1/4), Isabelle Prussman (long jump, 15-5), Emily Martin (triple jump, 31-4), Megan Cullen (100, 13.6), Julia Shorter (1-mile, 5:33.0) and the 4x100 relay team of Cullen, Gaelin McDonald, Lacy Raymond and Amanda Martin placed first for Amesbury.

Boys Lacrosse

Georgetown 11, Ipswich 8

Jared Warren had five goals and one assist for the Royals. Mike Gochakow and Neil Murphy tallied two goals and two assists each. Nick DePasquale, John Willis and Scott Perry had a goal and an assist each.

Girls Lacrosse

Pentucket 21, Haverhill 8

Sarah Wiles scored five goals for Pentucket. Sam Fiore (4 goals), Tori Spofford (3 goals), Jackie Brennan (3 goals), Alyson Ruzycky (3 goals), Kristen Fitzgerald (1 goal), Maddie McDonagh (1 goal, 1 assist) and Cammie Balentine (1 goal) factored in the scoring for Pentucket. Goalie Rori Ruggerio made 15 saves.

Newburyport 18, Swampscott 0

Kate McCauley scored four goals for Newburyport. Julia Kipp and Ali Peffer scored three each. Kelly Conway, Livie Couturier and Abi Moore had two each. Meri Adsit and Brenna Williams scored one each. Goalie Carly Kouvaris posted the shutout.

Boys Tennis

Triton 5, Haverhill 0

John DiDonato (6-3, 6-1), Andrew McGrath (2-6, 6-1, 6-3) and Travis Mihalchik (6-3, 6-0) won singles matches for Triton. At first doubles, Matt Faulkner and Henryk Jankowski won 6-2, 6-3. Nicholas Marcolini and Devon Shuman won at second doubles, 6-4, 6-4.
