Clancy caps career

Newburyport High alumnus Joe Clancy finished off his historic career at Merrimack College Saturday by leading his team back from a 21-point deficit in the second quarter in a 35-24 victory over Southern Connecticut State on Northeast-10 Championship Weekend. Clancy completed 33 of 52 passes for 260 yards, four touchdowns and one interception. He became the first player in league history to pass for over 4,000 yards in a single season. He finished his career with 85 touchdown passes, 9,308 passing yards and 812 completions.

Govs win bowl game

The Governor’s Academy (8-1) football team won a New England Prep School Athletic Conference bowl game for the third year in a row Saturday with a 67-19 victory over Hamden Hall Country Day School (Conn.) at Tabor Academy. Senior running Jesse Gwozdz rushed for 209 yards and six touchdowns. The Govs scored all 67 points in the first half.
