Pentucket alumna Viselli signs with Post University

One of the staples of the Pentucket girls basketball program’s era of recent dominance, Coley Viselli, has committed to her college of choice.

Viselli recently signed a National Letter of Intent with Post University, a Northeast-10 Conference basketball team.

Viselli, a Groveland native who graduated from Pentucket last spring, currently attends Marianapolis Prep School in Thompson, Conn. She’ll enroll at Post University next fall.

Post University coach Stephen Schuler expects Viselli to fill the same role for his team that the point guard filled for Pentucket for four seasons.

“She is a tough, gritty player who hustles, and will be a great addition to our system both offensively and defensively,” Schuler said.

Viselli was a four-time All-Cape Ann League selection at Pentucket, and the CAL Player of the Year following her senior season with averages of 11.0 points, 6.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 2.9 steals per game. She led the Sachems to a 93-12 record over her four years and won the state championship in 2012. Her team also won two Eastern Mass. titles and three North sectional championships. “She’s one of the smartest basketball players I’ve ever seen,” Pentucket coach John McNamara said. “I expect her to hit the ground running and be a solid player from the get-go. She played all four years for us, and I expect she’ll do the same for them.”

Viselli earned numerous awards at Pentucket, including the 2013 International Association of Approved Basketball Officials (IAABO) Board 130 Roger Alley Sportsmanship Award.

She was also a two-time All-Star for the IAABO Board 130 Tournament. She has played AAU for the Baystate Blizzard for the past five years. Coley’s sister, Ashley, a former 1,000-point scorer at Pentucket, currently plays at Saint Anselm College, also a Northeast-10 Conference school.

“I talked to her future college coach, and they play a similar style as us with a run-and-jump defense,” McNamara said. “She’ll fit in right away, and she’ll play right away.”
