Miles For Mike draws local support

Miles For Mike Meet

Triton coach Joe Colbert and Amesbury coach Ernie Bissaillon directed a freshman-sophomore meet Saturday at Woodsom Farm in Amesbury. Proceeds will go to the Mike Farmer Foundation, which supports local youth track programs. Mike Farmer was the Amesbury cross-country coach for the last 20 years. Ten local high schools, which included the Cape Ann League schools and North Andover, competed, as did middle school programs from Amesbury, Triton, Newburyport and Masconomet.

The only local runner to place in the top three at the high school or middle school level was Triton sophomore Maddie Quigley, who finished third in the 2-mile race in 12:42.

“Maddie’s been our number two runner through the first part of the season, right behind senior captain Liz Willmonton, who’s one of the top girls in the CAL,” Colbert said. “This meet was something of a breakout for Maddie and I’m happy for her. She ran all summer and really trained for the season, so it’s great to see her shine. I’m excited about her future.”
