---- — Patrick Freiermuth
The Pentucket freshman made his presence felt in a big way Saturday in his team’s 19-13 victory over Triton. Freiermuth seemed to have a homing devise on the football, as he made 12 tackles to go along with an interception of Triton quarterback Bradley Whitman. At 2-0, Pentucket is the lone remaining undefeated team in the River Rival Region, thanks in part to the suprising contributions of Freiermuth.
The junior quarterback unveiled a passing offense that was somewhat lacking in Newburyport’s first two games. Shay led all area passers with 165 passing yards (6-of-12 passing) and two touchdowns. He also rushed for 34 yards on four carries, and another touchdown. Shay’s contribution to three touchdowns helped secure Newburyport’s 35-7 victory over North Reading, a team that had won 10 of its previous 12 games.
The senior tailback has rushed for at least 100 yards in each of Triton’s three games. This week, in the 19-13 loss to Pentucket, Spillane had 17 rushes for 116 yards and two touchdowns. He also added four receptions for 61 yards in the passing game. On the season, Spillane leads all area rushers with 48 carries for 354 yards and six touchdowns. He also has over 100 yards receiving.
