---- — Coaching shakeup at UConn

Newburyport native Mike Foley was affected by the coaching shakeup on the University of Connecticut football staff this week. The former Newburyport High football captain (Class of 1974) and longtime collegiate coach was reassigned to coach the offensive line, in addition to his previous duties as tight ends coach.

The UConn coaching staff was restructured Monday after the university’s athletic director, Warde Manuel, fired head coach Paul Pasqualoni, with his team 0-4 after a 41-12 loss at Buffalo. Pasqualoni had a 10-18 record in two-plus seasons at UConn. Associate head coach George DeLeone, who coached the offensive line, also was fired. Offensive coordinator T.J. Weist will serve as the interim coach for the remainder of the season.

Foley is in his eighth season on the UConn staff. He worked with the offensive line for six years prior to last season, when he was moved to tight ends coach.

Merrimack College to NHL roster

Former Merrimack College winger Stephane Da Costa will start the season with the Ottawa Senators after making improvements in several areas this off-season. Da Costa has been filling in on Ottawa’s top line between Milan Michalek and Bobby Ryan while Jason Spezza has been sidelined with a groin injury.

Fresh Food Run vendors, entertainment

Saturday’s National Farmers Market Association’s Fresh Food 10K & 15K Run, hosted by Heat Event Management, at Spencer-Peirce-Little Farm in Newbury, will include farm brewers from Ipswich Brewing, Riverwalk Brewing and Cody Brewing. The Buttermilk Baking Company and Evolvement Radio will be on hand. Student musicians also will be performing.
