Govs keep winning

The Governor’s Academy football team ran its winning streak to 23 games with a 40-16 victory over Brooks Saturday in Byfield. The Govs (5-0) took a 14-0 lead into halftime before scoring three touchdowns in the third quarter. Amesbury resident Brandon Lopez had three touchdown runs, scoring on scampers of 33 yards, 22 yards and 3 yards. Quarterback Tommy Vailas also had two touchdown runs.

Numbers, numbers, numbers

Merrimack College quarterback Joe Clancy had another weekend in which he put up video-game numbers against a Northeast-10 Conference foe. In his team’s 51-9 road victory against St. Anselm on Saturday, Clancy completed 38 for 56 with six touchdowns, two interceptions and 441 yards, while classmate Shane Ferguson enjoyed a career afternoon with a personal best 150 yards and two scores. The Warriors (4-3) have a winning record for the first time this month.
