Pentucket falls to North Reading, suffers first loss

NORTH READING — Pentucket is no longer in the ranks of the unbeaten.

Last night the Sachems struggled to get their offense rolling in a 28-14 loss to North Reading (3-4). Ryan Kuchar and the passing attacked completed just 3 of 13 attempts, throwing as many interceptions (3) as completions. On the ground, the Sachems also lost a fumble.

Jeff Porter led the way, rushing for 54 yards on 14 carries and a touchdown after catching a 20-yard touchdown pass from Kuchar in the first quarter.

The Sachems also struggled on defense, allowing the single-wing Hornets to rush for a whopping 334 yards and three four touchdowns as a team, averaging 6.6 yards per carry.

Pentucket had already clinched a Cape Ann League Kinney Division title entering last night’s game, but North Reading will likely take a sizable leap up the Division 4 North power ratings with a victory over previously unbeaten Pentucket. The Hornets were ranked 12th in the division heading into last night’s game. At the very least, they figure to jump No. 8 Amesbury (3-4), after the Indians’ loss to Manchester Essex last night.
