Baseball/Softball

The Byfield-Newbury Baseball/Softball League is open for registration at www.byfieldnewburylittleleague.com. All players in grades 1 to 6 are required to attend the evaluations on Jan. 26 at Governor’s Academy.

Triton Babe Ruth registration will be held Feb. 5 (6 to 8 p.m.) at the Newbury Elementary School cafeteria. The registration fee is $150 for the 13/14- and 15/16-year-old divisions. The birthdate cutoff is Aug. 1.

Amesbury Little League registration is open for the 2013 spring season. The program is open for boys and girls between 5 and 12 years of age. All registration for this season will be online at www.amesburylittleleague.org. Please register before March 1. If there are any questions please contact Peter Arsenault at pharsenault@msn.com.

Amesbury Girls Youth Softball League is holding sign-ups for the 2013 season. Girls from Amesbury and South Hampton who are in grades 3 through 8 are invited to play in the league. Registration is being held at Play Ball in Salisbury Feb. 16 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Register by January 19 and pay $50. Tryouts will be March 23. Visit http://www.agysl.org/. Fishing

The Essex County Sportsmen’s Association’s annual Ice Fishing Tournament will be held Feb. 3, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Artichoke Reservoir, weather permitting. The event offers $1,000 in cash prizes. The entry fee is $20 and sign-up will occur at the tournament in the Turkey Hill parking area in Newburyport. All entrants will be eligible for a raffle at the end of the tournament.

Triathlon

The fourth annual Tri for the YWCA, will be March 24 (8 a.m.) at the YWCA Greater Newburyport, 13 Market Street. Events will include an indoor swim of 10 minutes in a 25-yard pool; indoor cycle of 25 minutes on a spin bike; and a 3K outdoor run. This is for all ages and fitness levels. Enter as an individual or team. Registrants who are not members of the YWCA can pay a $5/visit “Drop in” fee for swim and bike practice.
