Football Players of the Week

Newburyport Daily News

---- — Dillon Guthro

Newburyport

Defensive end

In Newburyport’s 38-7 victory over Ipswich, the 6-foot-3, 220-pound senior dominated the game in a way few lineman can dominate. He recorded two sacks, a forced fumble, 15 tackles and a blocked punt, which was returned by teammate Trevor Bradbury for a touchdown. One of Guthro’s sacks came in the Ipswich end zone, giving the Clippers two more points for the safety.

Jeff Porter

Pentucket

RB/DB

Porter made plays on offense, defense and special teams in Pentucket’s 42-7 victory over Amesbury. Porter opened the night with a 61-yard touchdown reception on the first play from scrimmage, and later added another 19-yard touchdown catch. On offense, he accumulated 121 total yards; on defense, he recorded an interception; and on special teams, he recovered a fumble.

Ryan Kuchar

Pentucket

Quarterback

With many wondering who would feel the void left by graduating 2,000-yard tailback Cody Rothwell, Kuchar stepped up to establish a passing game that wasn’t nearly as effective at any time last year. Kuchar completed 5 of 8 passes for 101 yards and two touchdowns. He also added two rushing touchdowns in Pentucket’s 42-7 win over Amesbury.
