Port boys soccer team clinches tourney berth

Boys Soccer

Newburyport 2, Triton 0

The Clippers (9-4-1) qualified for the state tournament for the second year in a row. Prior to last season, Newburyport had not played in the postseason since 2008. Adam Traxler had a goal and an assist. John Milton scored his first varsity goal. Tom Graham had an assist. Matt Canning and Shudee Woo combined on the shutout in net. John Spears played well defensively.

Pentucket 1, North Reading 0

Matt Farrell scored the goal for Pentucket with three minutes remaining in the game on an assist from Davis Miller.

Lynnfield 1, Georgetown 0

Gus Savage made two saves for Georgetown.

Girls Soccer

Newburyport 5, Triton 0

Jaycie Triandafilou collected two goals and an assist for the Clippers (12-1-1). Amy Sullivan had a goal and an assist. Maryam Moshrefi and Polly Corbett also scored goals. Elizabeth Lynch, Katie Gorenflo and Abbie Muise had assists.

North Reading 2, Pentucket 1

Senior Alex Moore scored the lone Pentucket goal on an assist from Colleen Kilian. Senior Sam Bomba made three saves for the Sachems (1-10-3).

Phillips Andover 1, Governor’s Academy 1

Hayley Newhall scored the goal for the Govs (6-0-2) on an assist from Erica Merullo.

Golf

Newburyport 143, North Reading 118

The Clippers (10-8) finished off their regular season with wins in 10 of their last 12 matches. Brendan Crowther was the medalist with 29 points. Travis Koocher and Mike Sweeney had 25 each. Kyle Bushnell (24), Ben Ventura (22) and Griffin Brown (18) rounded out the scoring for Newburyport.
