Port clinches third CAL title in a row

Boys Indoor Track

Newburyport 58, Amesbury 28

Newburyport (8-0) clinched a Cape Ann League dual meet title for the third indoor season in a row. The Clippers have won four CAL titles in the last five years. Jared Healey (40-yard dash), Graham Williams (2-mile, 11:05), Steve Preston (shot put, 48-3), Dan Holbrook (300, 43.29), Joe Santo (1,000, 2:58), Gabe Ficht (mile, 5:13), Sawyer Updike (mile, 5:13), Alex Reduker (high jump, 5-9) and the 4x400 relay of Brian Fiascone, Holbrook, Josh Darcy and Healey won events for the Clippers.

Girls Indoor Track

Newburyport 63, Amesbury 23

The Clippers (6-3) clinched their best indoor record in program history. Katie Gorenflo won the dash (5.55) and high jump (4-4). Birgitta Glaser (high hurdles, 6.74), Olivia Kearney (2-mile, 12:41), Erin Carroll (2-mile, 12:41), Abby Muise (300, 51.25), Bella Palma (600, 1:54.14) and the 4x400 relay of Gorenflo, Amanda Kenney, Liza Twomey and Becca Speak placed first for Newburyport.

Pentucket 60, Triton 26

The Sachems (7-2) clinched a share of the CAL Division 1 championship with the win. Ali Attenasio posted wins in the 40-yard hurdles (6.47) and shot put (27-9). Tyler Feeney (high jump, 4-11), Tori Spofford (300, 49.57), Paige Wesolowski (600, 1:56.30) and the 4x400 relay of Marisa Lundy, Spofford, Kristin Fitzgerald and Wesolowski also placed first.

Boys Basketball

Pentucket 50, Amesbury 48

Mike Aiduk led Pentucket (5-8) with 15 points. Calvin Wiles added 13. For Amesbury (6-7), Grant Bellino had 14 points and seven rebounds. Tommy Connors and Pat Halloran added nine points each. Devlin Gobeil had six points and nine rebounds.

Triton 74, Georgetown 61

Sam McKenzie led Triton with 23 points, 12 rebounds and eight assists. Zak Alaoui and Paul Dacy added 18 each. Connor Barry had eight points and 11 rebounds.

Girls Basketball

Newburyport 60, Lynnfield 47

Mary Pettigrew led the Clippers (7-6) with 22 points and 15 rebounds. Lea Tomasz added 15 points, five rebounds and three assists. Aly Leahy had 10 points, four rebounds and two steals.

Pentucket 43, Amesbury 30

The Sachems (14-1) snapped a rare one-game losing streak. Emily Martin led Amesbury with 11 points.

Georgetown 52, Triton 30

Harley Wood led Triton with seven points and eight rebounds. Jessica Greaney, Christine Ciccone and Amanda Colpitts scored six points each.
