Triton coach McElligott records 250th victory


Triton 46, Wilmington 31

Shawn McElligott earned his 250th win as the coach of the Vikings (18-6-1). John Boyle (126 lbs.), Mark Boyle (170 lbs.), Clay Bruneau (195 lbs.), Dave Manning (220 lbs.), Brody Johnson (106 lbs.) and Victor Ramirez (120 lbs.) had pins. Luke Boyle (138 lbs.) won by major decision. Jesse Caldwell (145 lbs.) won by default.

Triton 41, Greater Lowell 37

John Boyle (132 lbs.), Luke Boyle (138 lbs.), Manning (220 lbs.), Ramirez (120 lbs.) and Josh Misiano (126 lbs.) won by fall for Triton. Mark Boyle (170 lbs.) won by technical fall. Charlie Frauenfelder (285 lbs.) won by forfeit.

Triton 36, Tyngsboro 18

Mark Boyle (170 lbs.), Bruneau (182 lbs.) and John Boyle (132 lbs.) won by fall. Jared Stanley (138 lbs.), Luke Boyle (145 lbs.) and Manning (220 lbs.) won by forfeit. Triton will return to action at the Division 3 Sectional Championships Saturday at Melrose.

Pentucket 39, Lexington 27

Pentucket’s Tom Funk (120 lbs.), Mike Sullivan (126 lbs.), Josh Wesolowski (132 lbs.), Kevin Clark (138 lbs.), Mike McCarron (170 lbs.) and Sean Clohisy (195 lbs.) won by fall. Jeff Funk (145 lbs.) won by decision.

Pentucket 42, Beverly 27

Kyle Knox (113 lbs.), Tom Funk (120 lbs.), Sullivan (126 lbs.), Wesolowski (132 lbs.), Clark (138 lbs.), Jeff Funk (145 lbs.) and Clohisy (195 lbs.) recorded pins for Pentucket.

Triton 2, North Reading 2

The Triton hockey team (9-5-1 overall, 6-3-1 CAL) fell short in its second attempt to qualify for the state tournament, tying Cape Ann League foe North Reading (8-4-2, 5-3-1). Needing a win to clinch its third consecutive tourney berth, the Vikings are 0-1-1 in their last two games against CAL foes. They also lost to Lynnfield 5-1 last Wednesday. Triton is 1-2-1 in its last four games, with the lone win coming against Amesbury.
