Locals score in K of C Free Throw context

BRADFORD — On Feb. 16 parents and friends of the Knights of Columbus Free Throw participants between Georgetown, Salisbury, Gloucester, Haverhill and Newburyport gathered at the Sacred Heart Church gym for the District level competition and were entertained by some outstanding shooting.

In the girls 10-year-old division, Siobhan Hale of Salisbury sank 3 of 15 to best the field; Will Batchelder of Newburyport clinched the boys 10-year-old boys division, sinking 14 of 15 shots. May Acker of Gloucester won the 11-year-old girls division by dropping 7 of 15 shots. Competitor Meghan Winn of Newburyport blew her 12-year-old field away by sinking 9 of 15 shots. Ed Sheehan of Haverhill won the 12-year-old division in a shootout against Nicholas Medvedeff 6/5, 6/3. Mike Finnegan of Newburyport won the 13-year-old division, sinking 8 of 15 shots.

The next level of competition will be the Regional Free Throw competition at the Walter S. Parker School in Reading on March 23. Registration will begin at 8 a.m., shooting begins at 9 a.m. All participants must have a copy of their birth certificate or they will not be allowed to participate in the Regional Freethrow. The Frank M. Meader Council #6064 wishes the winners great success and hope that they advance to the next level, the State Free Throw competition.
