Division 3 North Sectionals
The Triton golf team placed third at the Division 3 North Sectional Championships at Far Corner, earning the third and final berth at the Division 3 State Championships Monday at Wyantenuck Country Club in Great Barrington.
The defending champion Vikings placed behind Arlington Catholic and Weston in stroke play. Each team consisted of six players, and the top four scores counted in stroke play. Arlington Catholic placed first with 308 strokes, Weston second with 315, and Triton third with 323.
Triton’s top four scorers included Mike Shea (74), Adam Chatterton (82), Kyle Hillick (83) and Brad Small (84). Shea placed second overall, earning the right to play for an individual Division 3 championship Monday at Wyantenuck Country Club. Triton’s No. 1 golfer all season, Jon Seward, finished with 85 strokes.
“It’s a team sport,” Triton coach Rich Dube said. “When your No. 1 golfer doesn’t factor in the score and you still advance, it says a lot about the team concept. It was a good day for Triton golf.”
Amesbury placed fifth of the 16 teams in Division 3 North. Paddy Flahardy also earned a trip to the individual championships by placing in the top 10 with an 81. Teammate Patrick Halloran just missed the cut with an 83.
