Newburyport readies for title game showdown with Bromfield

The Clippers’ quarterfinals appearance last year was a major improvement over their performance in the past few years. Two years ago, Newburyport came into the tournament as the No. 7 seed with a record of 10-5, but lost in the first round to No. 10 Manchester Essex, who beat the Clippers 11-10.

Then the year before that in 2011, when the current group of seniors were freshmen, Newburyport entered the tournament as the No. 11 seed with a record of 10-8, but were eliminated in the first round by Triton, who knocked off their archrivals by a score of 16-10.

Regardless of who their opponent is or how past trips to the tournament have ended, Batchelder said her team’s goal is the same either way — to win one more game and finish the season on top.
