Summer Track MeetsAmesbury will be hosting three track meets on Wednesday, July 16, 23, and Aug. 6. The meets are open to all ages: 6 to 8 year old to mens and womens open. Events include the 100, 200, 400, 800, mile, 2 mile, shot put, discus, high jump, and long jump. The entry fee is $5 for up to 3 events, and all proceeds benefit the track programs at Amesbury, Newburyport, Pentucket, and Triton. Ribbons will be awarded to all first place finishers by age group. The Merrimack Valley Umpires Association will hold umpire training classes for men, women and teenagers over 16 on Thursday, July 10, 17, 24 and 31, and August 7 and 14. Testing will be on Aug. 21. Classes are at the St. Michael School in North Andover from 6-8 p.m. Anyone who wants to be trained as a baseball umpire in Major League Baseball rules should attend these classes. The Massachusetts Baseball Umpires Association (MBUA) umpire’s exam is based on the rules of Major League Baseball and will be administered at the end of the classes. Candidates passing the exam will then attend clinics on mechanics and positioning. The cost for the 6 week program is $150. The 4th annual Dam Triathlon will come to Amesbury on Saturday, July 12. The race will take place at Lake Gardner starting at 8 a.m., after which participants will take a half-mile swim across the lake, a 13-mile bike ride through Amesbury and some of the surrounding towns, and finally a 3.1 mile run from Woodsom Farm back to Lake Gardner.
