While touching in itself, the speech resonated specially with Hardin, for he had just welcomed his son into the world — a red head, just like the speaker’s son.
“I made a pact with God that if I continued to do this, my children would remain healthy,” he said. “Over the years I have lost many people to cancer — cousins, my dad, business partners and people I know. It drives you to want to do something about it in any way you can. It’s just such a wonderful ride with probably some of the nicest people in Massachusetts.”
Hardin will begin his course in Wellesley before making his way to Massachusetts Maritime Academy. The following day, he will depart the Academy and head toward Provincetown.
Hardin has raised $3,175 but hopes to reach his goal of $4,500. To help him do so, donations can be made at the Pan-Mass Challenge website at PMC.org. Simply click the Donate button, then search for David Hardin.
