Newburyport overcame rainy conditions and a fast start by Austin Prep to run away from the Cougars late and win 15-4. Austin Prep scored all four of its goals in the first quarter, at one point leading Newburyport 4-2, but then the Clippers turned things on and scored 4 goals in the second, third and fourth quarters to put the game out of reach. Junior Matt Kelleher led the way for the Clippers with 8 goals, junior Michael Shay scored 4 goals and junior JJ Bajko added 3 goals. Senior Nick Federico had 2 assists, junior Peter Greene and freshman Ben Mirageas each had 1, and senior goaltender Dillon Guthro made 16 saves. Newburyport now stands at 4-1 on the season, setting up a huge matchup with Pentucket (4-1) on Friday.

Fourteen hits propelled the Clippers past the Vikings yesterday on a rain-soaked field. Amy Sullivan and Molly Kelley, Ashley Hodge, Shelby O’Brien, Carley Siemasko and Jade Carpenter all had two hits for the Clippers, and Sullivan and Kelley also had 2 RBIs. Newburyport is now 4-3 on the season, while Triton falls to 0-8. Next up for the Clippers is a meeting with Pentucket tomorrow at 10 a.m, and Triton will travel to Saugus, also tomorrow at 10 a.m.
