Newburyport won its fifth straight game over the weekend, topping Hamilton-Wenham 14-7 at War Memorial Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Ali Peffer had 7 goals and 2 assists, Julia Kipp had 6 goals and 1 assist, Kelly Conway had a goal, Grace Johnston had an assist, and goalie Izzy Sarra made 10 saves. Newburyport is now 7-4 on the year and faces Danvers today at home.
Newburyport 11, Hamilton-Wenham 10 (2OT)
Matt Kelleher came up huge for the Clippers in Saturday’s showdown with Hamilton-Wenham, scoring 7 of Newburyport’s 11 goals, including the game-winner in double overtime. Mike Shay and Brendan Barraclough each scored 2 goals, and goalie Dillon Guthro made 15 saves. Newburyport is now 11-1 on the year and faces Saugus at home tomorrow afternoon.
Lynnfield 12, Newburyport 11
The Newburyport softball team ran into some trouble on Friday, losing to Lynnfield 12-11 to fall to 8-6 on the year. Ashley Hodge had three extra base hits for the Clippers, including a triple and two doubles, Amy Sullivan had three singles and 2 RBIs, and Victoria Allman had three singles and 2 RBIs. Newburyport will host Masconomet tonight at 7 p.m.
Pentucket 11, Ipswich 3
Pentucket got a big win over Ipswich on Friday to end a two game slide and improve to 6-7 on the year. Kassidy Kennefick went 3-5 with 3 RBIs and 2 runs, Mary Kate Corrado went 1-3 with a triple, 3 RBIs and a run scored, Nikki O’Rourke was 2-5 with 2 RBIs, and Jenny Nelson went 2-4 with an RBI and a run scored, while also picking up the win by allowing 2 runs and 5 hits over 5 innings while striking out 5.
