Newburyport Wall of Fame

The Newburyport High School Wall Of Fame is accepting nominations for 2014. Honorees shall be men or women who have made significant contributions to athletics. Players, coaches, teachers, administrators or others. A student is not eligible until 20 years after graduation. All others are five years after completion of active service. Please send all letters of nominations to Newburyport High School, 241 High Street, Newburyport, MA 01950 to the attention of Pat McBride. The deadline for 2014 is June 1.

Running

Fuel Training Studio will be holding its second annual Newburyport River Run Half-Marathon and 5K Race on the morning of June 1. The USATF certified race course travels along scenic Water Street before heading out to the beautiful marshes of Newbury, past farmland and then back down High Street before finishing at the Towle Building on Merrimac Street. A portion of the race proceeds will go to the Pan Mass Challenge. Prizes will be given to top runners in various age groups, and all 13.1 race finishers will receive a medal. A festive environment including complimentary pizza and beer for runners, music by DJ Koko P, will follow the race near the finish line in the Towle Building parking lot. The 13.1 race begins at 9 a.m. and the 5K begins at 9:15 a.m. The top male and female 13.1 runners receive $250 first prizes. Runners are encouraged to pick up their race packets on May 31 from 4-6 p.m. at The Greater Boston Running Company on Water Street. Soccer tryouts

Seacoast United has announced tryout dates for its 2014/15 soccer club teams. All tryouts will take place during the first two weeks of June at the club’s Outdoor Complex in Epping. Reference the schedule found at http://www.seacoastunited.com for specific dates and times by age group, and to pre-register. Pre-registration is highly encouraged to help in planning for appropriate numbers and field space requirements. Boys interested in the Pre-Academy and U.S. Development Academy teams are encouraged to tryout with their true age groups.
