Basketball

The Newburyport Basketball Academy will be running two separate basketball clinics this season for boys in first- to eighth grade. The first clinic will start Nov. 5 and run five consecutive Mondays and Wednesdays from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Newburyport High for boys in the fifth- through eighth grade. The second clinic will run on Sundays starting Nov. 11 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Newburyport High for boys in first- to eighth-grade. Thanksgiving Food Drive

Join the Booster Clubs from Amesbury and Newburyport High Schools, in continuing the tradition of helping neighbors in need during the holiday season. Collection sites will be set up at the Thanksgiving Day football game between Newburyport and Amesbury at Landry Memorial Stadium in Amesbury. Hockey

The Merrimack College men’s ice hockey team is offering two free tickets to an upcoming game to the first 50 children, ages 4-9, who register for “Try Hockey For Free Day,” and particpiate on the ice in Haverhill Nov. 3 from 10 a.m. to noon. Learn to Skate

The Graf Rink, in cooperation with the Merrimack Valley Skating Club, is accepting applications for its fall Learn to Skate and Tiny Tots programs. Newburyport Youth Hockey is continuing to accept registrations for its Learn to Skate. The program is open to boys and girls from ages of 3 to 9 and runs 20 weeks starting Sunday, Oct. 14 at 10 a.m. Register before class at 9:30 or online at www.NYHL.org. Running

The 23rd annual Winner’s Circle Running Club Wild Turkey Trot 3.1 Mile Cross-Country Run/Walk will be run Nov. 22 at 8:30 a.m. at the Pipestave Hill/Mill Pond Recreation Area. Race proceeds to benefit the victims of Hurricane Sandy and the charitable activities and youth and adult running program of the WCRC. Also, course preview will run Nov. 11 (9 a.m.) at Pipestave Hill. Hosted and directed by the Winner’s Circle Running Club. The 24th annual Maudslay 5K Turkey Trot will take place at 8:20 a.m. Nov. 22 at Newburyport’s Maudslay State Park. All race profits will go to local charities, such as the Pettengil House and Opportunity Workshop. Last year, this race generated over $10,000 for the local charities. Train for the Turkey Trot on the Maudslay State Park Turkey Trot course. All levels are welcome Saturday mornings beginning Nov. 3 for three weeks.
