Sports in a minute

Off-again, on-again AD

Triton Regional High Superintendent of Schools Christopher Farmer issued a release yesterday announcing that recently hired athletic director Sean McInnis has decided to “stay on” as the athletic director. After hiring McInnis in June, Farmer last month reopened the search for an athletic director after McInnis requested to be released from his contract due to a family emergency.

Farmer did not specify yesterday how long McInnis would remain the athletic director in his release, but the original contract was an agreement for the length of the school year. McInnis is Triton’s fifth athletic director in the last eight years.

Farmer’s statement reads: “Circumstances have changed such that Sean McInnis is in a position to withdraw his resignation. I have very readily agreed to that. Sean has made a great impression during his opening weeks with the district. Everyone has high expectations of him. I believe that the arrangement is good for Sean, and good for the district’s program, coaches and athletes.”

Registration opens Friday for those who beat their age/gender qualifying standard by five minutes or more. Finally, registration will open Monday for those who beat their age/gender qualifying standard by less than five minutes. Visit http://www.baa.org/races/boston-marathon.aspx to register online.

The long wait

While some high school football teams will be playing their second game of the season this weekend, Pentucket remains idle. Because of scheduling complications, the Sachems don’t open until Sept. 20 at Amesbury. As for the other local football teams, Newburyport will open at Lynnfield Saturday at 11 a.m.; Amesbury will open at Triton Friday at 7 p.m.; and Georgetown will host Greater Lawrence Saturday at 1 p.m.
