Newburyport baseball team falls to Masco

Masconomet 3, Newburyport 2

Colby Morris pitched a gem for Newburyport (3-4) in a nine-inning loss. He pitched seven-plus innings, allowed two runs — none earned — with four walks while striking out seven. Brian Fiascone had two hits, an RBI and a run scored for the Clippers. Morris had a sacrifice fly. Connor MacRae doubled and scored a run.

Manchester Essex 5, Georgetown 4

The defending state-champion Royals (7-1) lost for the first time this season.

Softball

Amesbury 20, Manchester Essex 1

Cassie Schultz had four hits and three RBIs for Amesbury (8-0) in Friday’s win. Rachel Cyr earned the win with seven strikeouts in four innings.

Girls Track

Division 3 State Relays

Pentucket’s girls vault relay team of Ali Attenasio, Paige Wesolowski and Collen Kilian won and broke a school record (26-9). The shuttle relay team of Molly Smith, Rachel Perry, Chase Marcotte and Attenasio also placed first in a school-record time (1:08.55). Attenasio collected her third school record with a pole vault of 10-3.

Division 4 State Relays

The Amesbury girls placed sixth out of 25 scoring teams. The long jump team of Isabell Prussman, Emily Martin and Amanda Martin placed first. The discus team of Marissa Randall, Rachel Dawes and Sarah Abrahams finished second.

Boys Track

Division 3 State Relays

Pentucket’s vault relay of Joe Labrecque, Tom Funk and Tom Labrecque placed first and broke a school record (31-0). Pentucket’s high jump relay of Ian Mitchell, Franco Pizzarella and Jake Baribeau placed second (16-8). The shuttle hurdles team of Pizzarella, Steven Hardy, Jeff Funk and Baribeau placed third (1:09.52).

Division 4 State Relays

Amesbury placed fifth out of 26 scoring teams. The Amesbury shot put team of Perry Mroz, Curran O’Connor and Evan King collected a top finish, as did the discus team of Mroz, O’Connor and Jake Taylor. The pole vault team of Nick Fiorella, Doug Masi and Adam Elfiki also placed first.

Boys Lacrosse

North Reading 10, Georgetown 7

Nick Depasquale scored three goals for Georgetown. Jared Warren had two goals and two assists. Alex Brannon added a goal and an assist. Neil Murphy scored a goal. Jackson Fritz and Joe Mangano had assists.
