CAL Championships

Newburyport placed second with 99 points, just behind Masconomet (114 points). Newburyport’s Joe Santo, Chris Orlando and Joe Molvar went 1-2-3 in the 2-mile with times of 9:46, 9:52, and 10:00.48, respectively. Nick Carleo won the mile in a CAL Open record of 4:22.1. Sawyer Updike (800, 2:00.95), Tom Graham (400, 50.3), Steve Preston (discus, 154-5), and Newburyport’s 4x400 relay team of Dan Holbrook, Sam Stansel, Carleo and Graham also placed first. Alex Reduker placed second in the high jump (6-0).

Pentucket placed fifth overall. Ian Mitchell won the triple jump (42-0). Joe Labrecque (vault, 11-0) and Cooper Carifio (100, 11.83) placed second. Dan Thornton (400-meter hurdles, 59.52), Mitchell (high jump, 6-0), Jake Baribeau (high hurdles, 16.21), the 4x100 relay team of Chris Croteau, Steven Hardy, Jack Richard and Carifio; and the 4x400 relay team of Franco Pizzarella, Alec Biese, Thornton and Mitchell placed third.

Amesbury placed sixth. Perry Mroz (shot put) won a CAL title. Pat Halloran (400 hurdles) finished second. Evan King (javelin), Curran O’Connor (discus) and Doug Masi (100-meter dash) placed third.

Girls Outdoor Track

CAL Championships

The Pentucket girls placed fifth. Pentucket’s Ali Attenasio set a new meet record in the pole vault (10-6) en route to a CAL title. McKenna Kilian also placed first in the 400 (59.30). Paige Wesolowski (400, 59.79), Attenasio (high hurdles, 16.44) and Marissa Porter (mile, 5:13.67) finished second. Kilian (high jump, 4-10) and Wesolowski (pole vault, 9-0) placed third.

Amesbury placed sixth. Isabella Prussman won the long jump. Marissa Randall finished second in the shot put and discus. Amanda Martin (long jump), Sarah Abraham (discus), Gaelin McDonald (javelin) and Emily Martin (triple jump) finished third.

Newburyport placed ninth. The Clippers’ 4x100 relay team of Katie Gorenflo, Hannah Sheehy, Becca Speak and Liza Twomey placed second in 52.69.


Pentucket 10, Triton 3

Pentucket pitcher Ryan Kuchar improved to 4-0. He also went 3 for 4 with two runs at the plate. Connor McGuirk was 2 for 4 with two runs and three RBI for the Sachems (6-9). Pat Beaton was 3 for 4 with two runs. Bobby Barry was 2 for 4 with a run and four RBI.

Lynnfield 2, Amesbury 0

Amesbury (8-9) must win two of its last three games to qualify for the state tournament.
